View Full Version : Just who are you anyway (Janzie/Bryan)
(not sure on time frame of this, but we can cross that bridge later ;) )
If she was going to have an actual vacation, she could not do it hanging around grumpy Leroy the whole time. The man really did need to part with his work for longer than a few hours and RELAX! She didn't remember him being quite this obsessed years ago, but maybe she was just blocking it out.
She had meant to ask either the Admiral or the former Admiral if she'd have a little more leeway while they were here, but she shrugged, she had a feeling she'd be in limbo for a long while to come. But at least she was on a Federation ship again. In a way, she actually had more flexibility this way...to a point.
Finding a lounge with consoles at the tables, she sat down and began to browse her choices. There must be something that looked appealing.

Bryan was on his way to the holocomplex and his HMS victory outing when he finally spotted someone from Horizon. Janzie was sitting in browsing through the complex catalog. Adjusting his course he moved in.
"Hey there.....i see your going to indulge in a little fun like i am." He smiled and tipped his admiral's hat to her.

It took Janzie a second to determine who it was, and instinctively she sat a little straighter. “That is the idea…Captain, or something above that perhaps?” she speculated. “Earth military history wasn’t my strong suit even when I was in academy there.” She looked around, but didn’t see Bettina. Then again, what Bryan was dressed for Janzie had a sinking suspicion, was something a pregnant woman probably wouldn’t be participating in anyway. “Any suggestions as to activity. I have no idea if Leroy is going to be coming down here or not… that man is even harder to pull away from his work than he used to be,” Janzie said with a bit of a chuckle.

Bryan sat and removed the hat he was wearing. He had been meaning to talk to Janzie since there time on the Venture Star. He had noticed things... things he couldn't reconcile in his mind.
"Well you know the catalog they have here is pretty impressive. Simulations I've never seen before." He quickly looked her up and down.she appeared to be perfectly normal. But still......he had a suspicion.
"You know much about old earth history?" He asked with a smile.

Janzie shrugged. "As much as I needed to, to pass the exams," she admitted. "I can remember some things about the major world wars and important leaders, about what an offworlder would ask about at least. I wasn't actually born on Earth, traveled a lot as a kid, so I can tell you a little bit about a lot of things, just not a lot about one particular thing...or place in this case.
She noted him studying her, which she supposed was to be expected. To Janzie's knowledge, only the Admiral, Jackie, and Leroy knew her full story. So all the secrecy, or at least lack of knowledge...and the 'you can't look at this part of the file' was bound to spark some curiosity. How much she was at liberty to say about herself...Janzie had to admit, she wasn't sure.
"I'm guessing you know quite a bit," Janzie ventured. "Or at least about this particular time period in Earth's history?"

"I don't want this to sound strange or offend you but...." He set his hat down.
"Your not quite a regular humanoid are you?" He said with an eyebrow raised.

Janzie returned a blank look for several moments. That had not been the question she had expected to come from his mouth, but as the words sunk in, she realized it wasn’t completely unexpected either. “I’m hard to offend,” Janzie began for purposes clarification, “Surprise perhaps, but very rarely offend.” Sitting up straighter for a moment, she reassessed the room and the potential eavesdroppers that might be within hearing range. Despite the business of the location, it appeared that their conversation was pretty private.
“A tricorder would tell you that I am as human as I appear to be…right now,” Janzie answered cryptically. “But am I technically human…no Captain Cash, I am not.” She solemnly picked up the glass that had been set on the table, previously containing a beverage of some derivative of fruit. Just how much of an explanation of her irregularity was he seeking? How much did he already suspect? “But the admirals are aware of my true species and full Starfleet service record. I’m afraid the secrecy is really not due to any favorable act on my part or some secret mission on behalf of the federation.”
It was probably more of an answer to his question than he was expecting, but as the XO of the Horizon, and ultimately responsible for her, in a way, he deserved at least some answers.

Bryan smiled and nodded his head. "I thought there was something unusual about you. On the Venture Star I noticed a few things." Standing he offered his hand.
Janzie also stood, accepted the hand, and then shook it firmly. She was curious just what he had noticed that was unusual. Thinking back she thought she had been careful and not done any shifting in plain sight of anyone. What shifting she would have done would have been extremely minor; a length of sleeve here, a piece of jewelry there, if that even, as most of the time she had actually worn replicated clothes to keep her from such temptations. She would have to be more careful. Too many perceptive people and she could have a problem.
"You've already proved yourself to me. No matter your species or abilities you have my full trust. Anyone who could act in such an unselfish manner deserves at least that much."
Janzie chuckled, not that the notion was funny in the least, he was being serious and for that she was appreciative. It was more that it was another bittersweet reminder of just how badly she had screwed up, despite her best intentions. Had she still been in uniform things she had done since coming aboard would have probably just been ‘part of the job’. “Thank you Captain. That does mean a lot. If only I had not betrayed Starfleet’s trust in me way back when, I may not have lost my right to wear the uniform in the first place. No matter how well intentioned and how unselfish my actions at that time may have been however, impersonating a fellow officer is still impersonating a fellow officer, and they do not so quickly forgive that, nor should they really.”
“Now, speaking of not being ‘normal’ however… I could make the same comment about you couldn’t I,’ Janzie commented. The Captain had paid her a compliment and she had turned it into a pity party. She was working her way back into the good graces and his comment indicated she was succeeding…she hoped. “Though I think how I came to be where I am is a bit easier to understand than yours,” she teased lightly.
